Robert Gould
Hearing Instrument Specialist

In 1979 Gateway's founder, Robert Gould began dispensing hearing aids in Connecticut.

"At that time probably 80% of my business was fitting Behind-the-Ear type instruments"...In-the-Ear technology was deemed too unstable by many experts.

In 1982, when In-the-Ear technology finally gained wide acceptance, I was among the first despenser in the U.S. to fin In-the-Canal type instruments which were about 1/3 the size of the conventional technology and were nearly invisible.

"I knew much of the stigma associated with hearing loss came with the appearance"...

This new technology validated the advantages of sheltering microphones deeper in the ear to provide better signal-to-noise ratio, improved comfort and better phone use.

In 1979 the philosophical origins of Gateway also began growing with the birth of a child with Cerebral Palsy. As a parent, I was frustrated with medical equipment. We bought many devices. It seemed that each either cost too much, fit too poorly, broke too easily, failed to perform as expected or were poorly supported by uncaring staff. I didn't need any extra complications or surprises in my life, especially when they represented such a significant financial output.

That's why when it comes to correcting hearing problems, I understand your needs and concerns. There are many obstacles facing people with hearing loss and we have the skill, experience and compassion to help you overcome them all.
